All About The Asparagus Farm
"Tradition"
My love for growing asparagus began many years ago -- back in my early childhood.
Without fail every Spring -- starting in April -- our family would get together every Saturday to
work in our asparagus patch. The family gatherings on every Saturday would last until the first
batch of asparagus was harvested. Our asparagus patch brought our family together. And
harvesting asparagus had become a "family tradition" that has lasted over 35 years.

We would work out in the garden planting new asparagus plants/roots and refreshing the old
asparagus after a long cold winter. Everyone would help out and clear the old debris out of the
asparagus garden. The women would run around the asparagus patch and remove old
collections of leaves and tree branches while the men would carry heavy bags of organic
compost to the asparagus plants. The smell of fresh compost was some what irritating but we
knew that the smell would only last a short while. And in a month or so that very same asparagus
patch would be filled with asparagus plants ready for the cook pot. Many things have changed
since we started our asparagus patch and our backyard garden.
